Valeria Real presents the traces left by the past to help us build the landscape of the future. She dissects the different layers of fossil materials and processes to rediscover the imaginary of a remote territory.

In the Argentinean artist’s research work, a circular journey takes place between the micro and the macro. A zoom in both directions of the inhospitable immensity of Patagonia, which offers us a preserved natural scenario, harsh and hostile, at the same time fragile and delicate. An exploration of new materials and new textures in search of expanding photography to other formats.

GIANTS FROM THE END OF THE WORLD has the collaboration of the Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio (MEF), a unique centre for scientific activities in South America, pioneer in the development of technology applied to the replication and assembly of scientific scenographies. Valeria Real focuses on Paleoart, a discipline that combines art and science to reconstruct prehistoric animals and habitats that are now extinct. Reconstructions made with techniques derived from the plastic arts, based on scientific knowledge linked to fossils. To this end, it offers a poetic view of scientific work, delving into the artisanal and technological work carried out by this institution, responsible for the discovery of the world’s largest dinosaur in the province of Chubut, the artist’s homeland. Simultaneously with the exhibition GIANTS FROM THE END OF THE WORLD, the original specimens and life-size replicas can be seen in the travelling exhibition presented by the MEF at CaixaForum Madrid.

In order to raise our awareness of the irreversible damage we are causing to the environment, Valeria Real appropriates the scientific aesthetic code and some of its symbolic values such as neutrality, objectivity and credibility. The result of this precise convergence between science and art is an emotional exploration of the abstract and the unknown. A force of attraction that connects with the intangible.
